THE BORDER DIRECTORS
MID-DAY CONCERT - WEDNESDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER 2014

The initial Midday Concert of the 2014-2015 season featured the well known and very popular Northumberland Folk Group, the 'Border Directors'.  The group (Derek Poxton, Kim Bibby Wilson, Matt Seattle and John Bibby) have been playing and entertaining people of the north with traditional music for the past 25 years and St. George's was pleased to welcome them on Wednesday 17th September.
For sixty minutes or so, the group entertained an audience of about 100 with various songs, such as 'The Morpeth Rant', 'Goodwife of Morpeth', 'Gentleman Jim', 'Jack's Gone A'Shearing' along with se
veral others on a wide selection of instruments: guitar; mandolin; accordion; Northumberland pipes; keyboards; mandola; Border pipes and of course, the fiddle. An altogether very enjoyable hour or so of traditional and foot tapping music.

MANAGERS' COFFEE MORNING - SATURDAY 17th JANUARY 2015

The St. George's Church managers held their annual Coffee Morning on Saturday 17th January 2015.  In addition to refreshments, there was a well supported raffle and there was a sales table which included brand new items given as Christmas presents but not required and passed on.  Altogether, the morning rasied the sum of £433.20 for church funds.

ST. GEORGE'S CARPET BOWLS
PRESENTATION EVENING 24th APRIL 2015

On the evening of 24th April, the Club’s annual dinner and presentation evening was held at the Morpeth Golf Club restaurant. The event was attended by 28 members and friends and all enjoyed the excellent three course meal provided by A. & L. Hare Catering Ltd.  Andrew Cleverly made his inaugural comments as Club Chairman pointing out that the club had done reasonably well over the past year and thanking various members for their work and assistance in the running of the Club over the past year.  The presentations were then made by Margaret Johnson, with highly polished cups and small cash acknowledgements to the winners and runners-up of the various competitions, most being recorded ‘on film’ for posterity.  The picture shows Alan Hyde who won the Single Competition. The final part of the evening was taken up with the well-stocked raffle.

PLANT SALE & COFFEE MORNING - SATURDAY 16th MAY 2015

Thank you to everyone who supported the Plant Sale and Coffee Morning on Saturday 16th May. Thank you to all those who donated items and helped on the various stalls on the day.  The magnificent sum of £1071 was raised - far outweighing the excellent previous year's total of £791.  (A full list of individual stall takings can be seen in the vestibule and in the church hall).

'BORROW OR BUY' BOOK CLUB

This is a different fund-raising venture for St. George's.  Church members and friends are invited, for a donation of just £1.00, either to borrow or buy one of the paper-back books or jig-saw puzzles on the bookshelf which stands near the piano next to the Anderson Room door.  Any new good quality books - fiction or non-fiction - can be left in a bag (marked for Gillian Irvine) in the Anderson Room.
